Should you sell your home with LEDs or Incandescents?

Many home sellers are preparing to list their home on the market, either soon or in spring when the real estate market gets its annual spike. The real estate market’s up and down behavior makes it hard to determine if it will be a buyers or sellers market this year. While working with your seller’s agent you may find that you have quite the list to excute before actually listing your home of Realtor. With energy effiency on many peoples minds light fixtures and even light bulbs are not being overlooked. Listing your home as energy efficient may mean that you may need to say goodbye to those energy draining incandescent light bulbs. A recent NY Times article entitled ‘What’s Best, LED or Incandescent Lights?’ questions whether or not replacing those incandescents with LEDs is the best selling option.  And although this may seem like a great idea there are some questions to ask yourself before completing an entire home LED retrofit. Is it within your seller’s budget? Will the LED light fixtures appeal to everyone? What are your other options? LEDs are a great replacements for many old fixtures, and the energy savings you will quickly see reflected on your electric bill may just make you to a smile. But as to whether or not your potential buyers will appreciate this is unknown. Also consider your “makeover budget” this will help you determine whether this is feasible. If you cannot afford to replace all of your fixtures with LEDs, consider replacing your most energy draining light fixtures with LEDs and choose CFLs or other fluorescent type light bulbs and fixtures...

5 Ideas to Upgrade your Fan’s Appearance

If you are in a position where you do not have the option to completely change out your fan, I have some other options for you. These options include changing certain aspects of the fans appearance. Option #1 –  Change the fans glass shades. 1) Changing the fans glass shades can completely upgrade your fans appearance. However, keep in mind that not all fans are the same size. With varying sized components available, be sure that before you purchase an item it will meet the  measurements  required by your current fan. Also some fans will have 2-4 glass shades. Make sure their is  enough  space in the glass shade for the bulb that you desire. Occasionally there will be a smaller sized base (or socket), take this into account when purchasing your new glass shade. 3) Start your search with your fan’s manufacturer.
