Would you pay $200 a scoop for glow in the dark ice cream? What about ice cream made with jellyfish? Well, they are actually one in the same. You may think glow in the dark, that can’t be healthy or isn’t that toxic? It would be it they would have used glow sticks to make it (not recommended), instead they use special jellyfish parts that have a natural bioluminescent. Don’t worry, if jellyfish aren’t your thing there is a non-jellyfish version made from the quinine in tonic.
Created by Charlie Harry of Lick Me I’m Delicious, a man with passion for invention. His nickname “The Edible Inventor”. Here is his personal description of the ice cream and how it’s made:
“But what on earth is it??? It’s glow in the dark jellyfish ice cream using calcium activated proteins that react when they are agitated, or to put it a non sciencey way, it glows when you lick it. It’s also pretty insanely expensive stuff, we worked out each scoop is coming out at around £140, dam those big bucks jellyfish. Is it safe to eat?
Well I tried some and I don’t seem to be glowing anywhere, so we’ll go with a yes for now. We’ve also made a non-jellyfish version using quinine from tonic to make a glow in the UV dark gin and tonic sorbet which is pretty neat and can be ordered from all good Lick Me I’m Delicious event contraptions.
