The Sputnik Family Tree

The Sputnik Light Family Tree Russian Sputnik Satellite 1957                                Gino Sarfatti 1950 Model #2003 Sputnik Chandelier The Atomic Modern Design period was derived from the nuclear culture of the 1940’s to 1960’s.  It was a time of futuristic science, technology, and outer space exploration that influenced the design of furniture, cars, fashion, and just about every consumer product on the market.  In 1957 the Soviet Union launched the world’s first Satellite into orbit and the race to space had begun.  The Sputnik Satellite was a 23” metal ball with four obtuse radio antennas awkwardly pointing out that circled the Earth in a mere 98 minutes.  It captured the fascination of space travel and soon became a symbol of the world to come.  It was around this time that Gino Sarfatti, the famous Italian designer, launched his own Sputnik ceiling chandelier that created a trend that is still alive today.   Strada Chandelier Collection by Kelly Warstler for Visual Comfort The Strada collection is uber cool, sophisticated, and comfortable all at the same time.  The small and neat little bulbs add to the very secret and peaceful existence of the many spikes.  Unlike most Sputnik style lights, this one has the light coming from within.. Starburst by Blackjack Lighting Completely integrated with LED the Starburst Chandelier squares up all of the celestial Sputnik style lines into a streamlined off balance version of the original.  The beautiful finishes of chrome, satin nickel, brushed brass, and matte white finishes provide you with a look for any modern...

Gorgeous Gravey Lighting

The Gravey Wall Sconce by Koncept While wondering thru the Dwell Show in los Angeles on Friday May 29th This brilliant wall sconce caught my eye, it was compact yet packed a punch! It’s called Gravey and just let me tell you how “yummy” it is, It has the latest edge it technology meaning the light shines not only out but around the edges. It has a soft warm evenly distributed glow with a swivel head that shines the perfect light where needed. Turning gravey on and off is as simple as the fixture itself, just tap the LED underside and you’re done, what about dimming? Touch the LED underside and hold for that perfect level of light desired. Gravey comes in walnut, maple or white oak and is encased in aluminum. It’s Simple, It’s Elegant, and It’s Functional… I love “Gravey”!   See more about the Gravey at Koncept...
Some People Like Shade

Some People Like Shade

SHADE pendant lamp providing diffused light. Diffuser in foldable paper with floor light source in black aluminum. Shade redefined the word “lampshade”; and its fixed perspective. An effortless way to have warm ambience light with a touch of surrealism. The magic of Shade is achieved by avoiding the conventional way of using mains power from the ceiling, and with it intrusive fittings and flex. Instead, power derives from an LED floor fitting shining an uplight into the paper shade, which in turn is suspended from the ceiling with next-to-invisible, capillary-thin wires. Paul Cocksedge adds: “Shade has an almost dream-like mystery. It utilizes floor and ceiling both, but appears unconnected to...
